Explore Your Creativity at The Gallery at Flat Rock

Whether you've always wanted to try a new artistic medium or are looking to expand your creative skills, The Gallery at Flat Rock is offering an exciting lineup of hands-on workshops this year. Led by experienced instructors, these small-group classes welcome beginners and experienced artists alike, providing opportunities to learn new techniques while creating something uniquely your own.

July 18 – Introduction to Cyanotype
Discover one of photography's oldest and most magical processes during this introductory workshop with instructor Eric William Carroll. Using plants, natural objects, and found materials, participants will create striking cameraless photographic prints while learning the fascinating art of cyanotype. 1:00–3:00 p.m. | $75

August 1 – Introduction to Linoleum Block Printing
Instructor Denise Markbreit introduces the fundamentals of linoleum block printmaking through demonstrations covering every stage of the process. Participants will learn carving, inking, and printing techniques while creating their own original prints. 12:00–4:00 p.m. | $140

August 15 & 22 – Stitch A Portrait
Back by popular demand, this two-session workshop with Helene Lund Den Boer teaches participants how to transform a favorite photograph into a stitched textile portrait. Students will transfer their image to fabric, develop their own artistic style through stitching, then return the following week to complete and refine their work. 12:00–4:00 p.m. each session | $120

September 12 – Silver Stacking Rings
Create your own custom sterling silver rings while learning the basics of metalsmithing with instructor Melanie Merenda. Participants will explore forming, texturing, soldering, and finishing techniques before taking home two handcrafted silver rings. Suitable for both teens and adults. 1:00–3:00 p.m. | $120

October 17 – Eco-Printing
Discover the beautiful intersection of art and nature in this half-day workshop with Melanie Wilder. Participants will learn natural dye techniques while creating a set of organically printed cotton tea towels using leaves and flowers. 12:00–4:00 p.m. | $140

November 14 – Mixed Media Mosaic
Instructor Janice Levitt demonstrates how to combine slate, stone, shells, pebbles, stained glass, and found objects into a richly textured mosaic. Participants will learn design principles and construction techniques while creating their own expressive work of art. 1:00–4:00 p.m. | $110
