Opening Reception: Friday, Nov 7, 6-8 pm

Artist Talk 6:45

Studio 116 is proud to present an exhibition of monotype prints by nationally recognized artist Marty Whaley Adams. Recollection: A Legacy in Monotype features a collection of monotype prints by Adams, a Charleston, South Carolina native now based in Flat Rock.

Recollection will reflect on the artistic legacy of this Lowcountry artist who has had ties to the Blue Ridge mountains since her family bought property in Flat Rock in the early 20th Century. Marty finds inspiration in the beauty of the natural world, notably shown in her remarkable still lifes that feature beautifully textured objects painted in rich, nuanced colors. A longtime monotype printmaker, Marty enjoys the spontaneous process of creating monotypes by painting in inks to create a one-off impression on paper. Recollection features a number of new monotypes printed at Studio 116 mixed with prints the artist has made over the past two decades.

Marty recently donated her large etching press and her printmaking supplies to Studio 116, effectively moving her printmaking operation to the art space. Yet her primary intention is to support the nascent Butcher Shop Press at Studio 116, which will offer workshops in printmaking and access to the printing press for area artists. “I feel that having this exhibition will introduce artists to this way of painting. We can all learn new ways to be creative and have fun doing it.”
