Upcoming Hike on Thursday, April 23:

Big Glassy via Trails of St. John

On April 23, Father Josh will lead us on a special Eastertide Eucharistic Holy Hike starting at St John in the Wilderness. After opening prayers, we will follow the New Jerusalem Path and village trails to walk across Flat Rock toward the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site. This route will parallel the Old Jerusalem Path that allowed the original owners of the Carl Sandburg Estate and many others to walk to St. John in the Wilderness on Sundays.

Once we arrive at the National Historic Site, we will hike the Memminger Trail Loop to Glassy Trail.  Along the way, we will pause for prayers and readings as we prepare to celebrate a Eucharist at the summit of Big Glassy. After lunch we will walk back to the church along the same route. This 4.6-mile roundtrip hike, with an elevation gain of 744 feet, is rated easy to moderate.

No special hiking equipment or shoes are needed. Dogs are allowed but must remain on leash. Pack water and lunch. The church’s parish hall will be open if you need to fill up water bottles or use the restroom. You may park in the church or parish hall parking lots.

Please plan to meet at 10:00am at the Wilderness Chapel which is an outdoor chapel located on the Trails of St. John. Click here for the trail map.
