Studio 116 is excited to host ‘Rooted and Sewn: an Intuitive Passage’ an interactive, multi-medium collaborative fiber art installation by creators xocean alexandre dumas and elliot eLm mittens. The exhibit opens on August 8, a date also known since ancient times as the Lion’s Gate, a portal connecting the Earth with the Pleiades.
Visitors to ‘Rooted and Sewn’ are welcome to get inspired and add to a collaborative weaving and a communally-written poem, and then sit within a lace-covered tent depicting the Blue Ridge Mountains at sunrise.
‘Rooted & Sewn’ asks, “What do we carry with us and how does it change us?” Focused on themes of grief, ritual, adornment, safety and liminal space, all tied together through a deep honoring of the Blue Ridge mountains, dumas and mittens invite viewers/collaborators on a passage spanning time and traditions. This new body of work is comprised of interactive fiber arts, sewn tapestries, block prints, weaving, costumery, and ritual.
