Luminous Encaustic Monotypes Workshop
with Heidi Mayfield

Two-Day Printmaking Workshop

Come and be enchanted by the magic of encaustic monotype printmaking using molten beeswax, rich pigments, and delicate papers. This ancient medium—older than oil painting—creates luminous translucent color.

Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, this workshop requires no drawing experience—only curiosity. You’ll leave with a collection of original encaustic monotypes and a deeper appreciation for this mesmerizing and captivating fine art process.

All materials are provided. This includes 1 full sheet of Rives BFK (enough for 4 prints). Additional paper may be purchased in house.
Cash or card accepted.

During the first day of this workshop, you’ll apply pigmented encaustic wax directly onto the warm plate before lifting one-of-a-kind prints onto Japanese printmaking paper and rice papers. As the wax melts, flows, and blends, each print reveals its own unique character, inviting experimentation, spontaneity, and creative play.

Day two of this workshop incorporates your encaustic creations into classic monotype printmaking using the chine collé wheat paste method. Learn the basics of traditional monotype techniques to manipulate oil based inks on a Plexiglas plate using brushes, DIY tools, and brayers. You will create unique collage prints by layering and transferring your encaustic prints and oil based monotype images onto a sturdy sheet of traditional printmaking paper using a traditional etching press.
